Re: copyright on these films? (modified list) |
The majority of these films are here but John Ford's Yellow Ribbon is not nor is God's Little Acre. I think God's Little Acre was here for awhile, but was pulled.

Re: copyright on these films? (modified list) |
"God's Little Acre" is like "Day of the Triffids". They were made by Security Pictures which was a successor to Monogram. When the Mirisch Brothers moved from Allied Artists (Monogram) to United Artists, the Allied Artists catalogue fell into the hands of a company called "Motion Picture Holdings" (MPH inc) who were diligent with renewals but when video came along they paralell licenced their catalogue to many labels making it look as though the films were PD. Confusing many people until today.

Re: copyright on these films? (modified list) |
I think "She Wore a Yellow Ribbon" was here for a short while but got removed. The film is PD in Australia, New Zealand, Canada and most of Asia, but in the US its still copyright.

What's the case with "They Eat Scum" |
I have seen this film mentioned here a couple of times (I believe once even by me) but never saw a post that really explained to me if it was PD or not???

Re: What's the case with 'They Eat Scum' |
I've never seen the film but, like many independent films, it was never registered for copyright. Basicaly for any film that was released after 1978 if it does not have a correct copyright notice and was not registered within 5 years it is public domain. If it contains a valid notice it is not Public DOmain but as long as it is not registered with the US copyright office the copyright holder cannot sue or claim damages for infringement. This creates a kind of ad hoc form of public domain status that some people call "the grey market".
